Chateaux Wineaux & Fiascaux

Progress continues on the two 70's "bonus buildings" and nears completion — clearing the way to start work on the little turquoise cracker house in July (might be August now). As you can see in the photo of Mota (one of two visiting pooches), the new porch is on Chateaux Wineaux. Wineaux is the smaller of the two (24'x24' about the size of a double garage), the one closest to completion, and the one Miss Nora and I occupy.

The porch gives me a small but dry place to work during the rainy season. Since the rains started, frog and toad populations have skyrocketed. Exterior painting is limited to a few, dry hours in the morning. After lunch, the heat of the day fires up the thunderstorm machine to give our tin roof a tropical drumming.

I sprayed the door a bright green and ever since a little green (same color) tree frog has taken up residence on our new porch. A couple of weeks ago, 10 miles outside of Otter Creek, driving down two lane Hwy.24, we encountered an 8ft. alligator, sunning himself on the blacktop. Needless to say, we crossed into the other lane. This is wild and beautiful country.
